SYDNEY POST-RACE WRAP.
A bit of luck – plus a lot of running – gets Adam Culbert & Ross Hynard over the line in Sydney.
We kicked off, as we had planned, by sitting down and working through the clue sheet on the internet. Realising that we needed to go to the north side of the harbour, we ran to Wynyard station with the hope of figuring out the remainder of the clues whilst on the train. At Milsons Point, Adam struggled with dry Weetbix and I struggled to come to terms with jumping in North Sydney pool with my phone in my pocket.
We got back on the train and headed to St Leonards for the next two ChasePoints, golf and painting, and were lucky to knock these off before the queues became long. On the way back to the city on the train we formulated our plan for the remaining ChasePoints. We decided to put all our eggs in one basket and just stick to the ChasePoints around the CBD region. After copping a spray tan at the Harts pub, we made our way down to Circular Quay to harass some unfortunate tourists.
Six down and we ran up to Broadway to do the compulsory ChasePoint at Rebel. Again, we were lucky and didn’t have to wait at all for this one. Our next ChasePoint was at the climbing gym at Sydney Uni. We got through this one fairly quickly and then ran down to a pub on Glebe Point Rd to fish tokens out of maggots etc.
One to go and a park near Star City was our destination. We ran most of the way but were very lucky to get a lift from a fast forward car just as we were starting to blow hard. Eating strange bits of chicken was difficult but we figured, with the luck that we had gotten, we may be a chance of doing well so we threw them down.
A hard run finished off our chase back at James Squires and we were pumped to find that we had managed to win.
We ran hard all day but there is no way you can win this event without a lot of luck and we certainly feel very fortunate to have done so.

TOURISTS ON TOP.
Out-of-towners Andrew Hill and Peter Preston enjoy the sights - and take home the Melbourne title. Here’s their report.
We started at Waterside in Docklands which was a great location for it and from there we ran into the CBD firstly to the State Library and to Centrepoint Rebel. It was good to get the compulsory ChasePoints out of the way early. Also, these were the only two that we knew the locations of straight away. From Rebel we ran to Pugg Mahone’s Pub nearby. It wasn’t open and we didn’t realise that it was the wrong pub. So we caught a tram to Melbourne University for a workout CP.
We then started to run to Fitzroy but came across the fast forward car. It took us to Melbourne Zoo - we had no idea why. Luckily for us, another team had told us you needed a zoo ticket as part of the scavenger hunt and told us the location of the next CP. (We were supposed to pick up the scavenger hunt list in the CBD but didn’t read the clue sheet, whoops!) Anyway, the car took us back to Melbourne Uni where we ran to Pugg Mahone’s in Carlton for a spray tan.
Prong (Peter) started racing off to the CP in Fitzroy before I had a chance to put my shirt back on. This was just has well coz we just made the session, otherwise you would have to wait 10 minutes. All the teams we passed on the way didn’t make it. This CP involved doing the Zumba dance which we found we are not good at.
ChasePoint 6 was the Old Colonial Inn. We needed to raise $12 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in Fitzroy which we managed fairly quickly. We finally grabbed our scavenger hunt clue sheet at the Metshop in the CBD and realised we needed to go to St.Kilda. (If we were smart, apparently Google images had the answers for the St.Kilda questions so we didn’t even have to go.) Anyway, we caught the tram to the Belgian Beer Café on St.Kilda Rd and I did a questionnaire about Prong. I got all but one, so only one weetbix for me.
We then ran to the Prince of Wales Pub where Prong ate some worms, before another short run to Luna Park for a Pirate Ship style ride. Another couple of minutes and I reckon I’d have been throwing up.
When we exited Luna Park our tram was just leaving to go back to the CBD so we tried to catch back up to it. We almost caught it at the next stop but just missed out so we kept chasing it and eventually caught it 4 stops later! The last CP at the Woolshed was to eat wasabi and then a run to the finish.
The highlight for us was the overall experience of visiting places we had never been to before. I’d highly recommend people attempt a City Chase in a ‘foreign’ city.

THE TOP 3.
Another year, another bunch of challenges to push Chasers to the limit. We take a look at some of the standouts.
SYDNEY
1. BlackBerry Photo & Video hunt
Chasers had to successfully capture four out of eight tasks using a BlackBerry phone. These included photographing ten non-participants standing in order from tallest to shortest and videoing a member of your team singing ‘All you need is love’ with a member of the public. Participants had a maximum of 20 minutes to complete this ChasePoint. Fail and they suffered a ten-minute time penalty.
2: Garden Island Navy Base
Teams caught boats (speedboats if they were lucky) to Garden Island where they competed against another team in a kayak race, ran a boot camp style obstacle course and raced to the top of a tower as part of a memory test.
3: Artescape
Teams created an artistic masterpiece using anything from Barbie dolls to kitchen utensils as their paint applicators – not a paint brush in sight.
MELBOURNE
1: Zumba Dancing
Teams had to complete a 10 minute Zumba routine taught by a professional instructor.
2: MSAC Pool
Teams arrived at the ChasePoint to find two high-dive boards – a 5m high and a 10m high. They had to jump a total of 20 meters.
3: Nat Geo Rock Climbing
Team members played a game of ‘scissors, paper, rock’. The winner chose who would climb. But then the other person had to! The wall was hair-raisingly high.

GREETINGS FROM BONDI!
Reidy and Bacon from Bondi Rescue give us the run down on their Chase experiences – in both Sydney and Melbourne.
Hello Chasers,
Thanks for taking part in this years awesome City Chase with us. As lifeguards we are not the smartest bunch so we thought we were "doomed" from the start.
Sydney didn't go so great for us as we decided to make use of the public transport system as opposed to running everywhere. We came in somewhere around the 90-100 mark which wasn't as good as the year before but didn't we have some fun along the way. When the navy boys took our kayak paddles away from us in the race on Garden Island we thought we would lose for sure but quick thinking from Bacon, deciding to use the kayaks like paddle boards got us across the line so there was no extra running for us! Although I came unstuck at the Kirribilli pub when I didn't know as much about Bacon as I thought, I had to eat at least 3 Weetbix without milk and felt nothing like an Aussie Kid!!!
Then we ventured down to Melbourne and our tactics had to change again totally as Bacon had never been there and I'd only been there once. If we didn't plan our trip we would be running around like headless chook's. Luna Park along with jumping off the 10m diving platform were my favorite ChasePoints and I’m pretty sure Bacon did the rock climb in the anaconda shop twice. Big shout out to the poor fella that accidentally ate the whole cup of worms instead of just 1 worm. It made my day and I’m pretty sure I didn't see him eating any of the yummy sandwiches at the end of the race. Poor bloke must have been full from those 50 odd worms. Ha Ha. Melbourne City Chase was so much fun for us as we got to see so much of a city we didn't know very well and have a blast along the way. We are very much looking forward to next year and look out ‘cause we’re coming to win!!!

ALL FOR A GOOD CAUSE!
Farzana Khan and Casey Manning win Most Funds Raised For Charity in a year when City Chase raised almost $10,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s (JDRF) mission is to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes and its complications, through the support of medical research. City Chase helped raise funds for the JDRF this year in two different ways.
Teams were encouraged to register with Everyday Hero and raise funds with the help of their family and friends. Farzana Khan and Casey Manning from Sydney raised $1,495. As winners of Most Funds Raised For Charity they received a Four Seasons Hotel voucher, a $100 Rebel Sports voucher and tickets to see the Sydney Symphony perform. Winners of the most funds raised in Melbourne were Caroline and Michael McCone with $531.13.
On Chase Day there was also a ChasePoint designed specifically to raise money for JDRF. Teams had to either shave a section of their head, get a henna tattoo on their face or shave an eyebrow. They then had to spin a roulette wheel and the number they landed on was how much money they had to raise for JDRF. The Sydney ChasePoint raised $3519 whilst the Melbourne one raised $1177.
Overall, a grand total of $9,076.18 was raised for JDRF.
