SUITS YOU, SQUIRE!
Finishing is just the first part. Then there’s the after party. This year’s venues: James Squire Brewhouse in both Sydney and Melbourne.
James Squire loved a challenge. The first fleet convict and Australia’s first brewer had to overcome insurmountable odds to get his first brew in a mug.
So in the spirit of adventure, we’re holding this year’s City Chase After Parties at the fine emporiums where you can raise a glass filled with one of his finest lagers, ales or porters.
You’ll have built up a thirst and what better place to quench it than at the James Squire Brewhouse and Restaurant at Sydney’s Darling Harbour or Melbourne’s Docklands. It’s a great place to swap stories with fellow Chasers. And to cheer the winners on to their next challenge: the Australian Championship.

LIFEGUARDS TO THE RESCUE
If you need some tips for this year’s Chase, read these words of wisdom from Reidy and Bacon from Bondi Rescue.
They competed last year, and Andrew “Reidy” Reid and Adriel “Bacon” (as in Kevin) Young from Channel Ten’s Bondi Rescue are back on board for City Chase 2010. As two blokes who have a bit of experience being at the heart of the action, we asked them for their tips on preparing for the big race.
Reidy: “After competing in last years City Chase I feel there are definitely some things that I will do differently. For one, I’ll be studying the bus timetables to get a better idea of which buses run where. I’ll also study a map of the city, especially the CBD, and maybe read up on some of the historical places that may help with clues during the race. I also think being that extra bit fitter might help me make more accurate decisions while on the move in the fast paced race that is City Chase. So I suppose any kind of cardiovascular exercise will help with that in the lead up.”
Bacon: “Last year’s city chase was unreal fun and challenging. In the way of preparation for 2010, I’d recommend the following. Know the city as well as possible, everything from public transport to Museums and Universities. Being fit so you can go all day is pretty important. It’s a long day, so endurance is the key. Keep hydrated – it’s so important for such a long day of exercise and excursion. Have a nice big meal the night before with lots of carbs. Pasta’s probably your best bet. And eat a proper breakfast the morning of City Chase. Don’t forget to warm up before the start. And, most importantly, enjoy yourself. It’s a great day.”

WORLD CHAMPIONS, EH?
Canada is the 2009 World Champion of City Chase.
Against 1000 Chasers, they won the Toronto City Chase last August. They went on to be victorious at the epic North American City Chase Championships in Quebec City in September. Now, Jeremy and David Crane have prevailed in Salta, Argentina to become the 2009 City Chase World Champions.
The Canadian brothers beat eight other teams from around the world in a
56-hour epic adventure. They crossed the line just ten minutes before Team Singapore. Reigning Champions Portugal came in third, calling the race “the most challenging to date”.
The teams participated in 25 unique ChasePoints including Gaucho activities, racing go karts on a professional track, surviving a 4-hour boot camp facilitated by the Argentinean Army, biking 60km through steep winding roads in the mountains and stifling heat, flying over a river on South America's highest 750 m high zip line, and camping on a deserted island.
As World Champions David and Jeremy have won a trip to a Right To Play project.

THE PICK OF THE POINTS
Marching bands. Dancers. Dignitaries. A police escort. You mightn’t have been there, but here are some ChasePoint highlights from the World Championships in Salta, Argentina.
ChasePoint 2 – Beer Run
Chasers arrived at the Salta brewery and were required to find their uniform, work goggles, and safety shoes. Following the safety check, they had to load a full pallet of beer. They were then given a photograph of where they must deliver the beer – about two kilometres away. The waiting bartender provided them with their next clue. The last team to arrive was eliminated.
ChasePoint 7 – Soccer Game
A combined team made up of all the Chasers played a friendly game against a youth elite soccer team (2 x 20 minute halves). For every goal they scored, the Chasers earned an extra “comfort item” (pillow, blanket etc). Afterwards, the bottom four teams played against each other in a penalty shootout. The last placed team was then eliminated.
Chase Point 9 – Army 101
After a military makeover (including short back and sides haircut), Chasers completed an obstacle course set by the Argentinean Army. That was just for starters. Teams then had to traverse a three kilometre muddy river before shooting at plates on a rifle range.

AUSSIE TEAM REPORT
Jocelyn Santosa and Carolyn Rafferty were carrying the flag for Australia in the 2009 World Championship. How did the only female team fare?
Fresh off the plane from Argentina, Jocelyn had the following to report.
“We were treated like absolute royalty in Salta. The start of the race was spectacular – marching band, a war cry and men on horseback. We set off on the race on a scavenger hunt around the city on foot and were pleased to see that we had an early lead on the pack.
Unfortunately by the end of Chase Point 2 (the Beer Run) all the strong male teams had caught up, and we were eliminated. This may have been a good thing given what was to follow in the gruelling 56 hour race! We have so much respect and admiration for the finishing teams. They are truly elite athletes.
We are taking away from the experience so many strong friendships and great memories. Apparently there is a museum opening up shortly to commemorate our experience! Wow! Thank you to City Chase and all the sponsors for allowing us to represent Australia in beautiful Argentina.”
