    AND THE WINNER IS... SALTA!

The word is out. Salta, Argentina is Host City of the 2009 City Chase World Championship.

Champion Chasers from around the world are getting ready to meet in Argentina where comfort zones will be pushed, where adventure and fun are guaranteed, and where memories of a life time will be created.

The host city, Salta, is a colourful colonial city bordering the Andes in the Northwest part of Argentina.

“Salta is a city that will provide the necessary playground to host a world class event. It also offers its residents and visitors a variety of unique landscapes and exciting adventure”, says City Chase creator, Nick Jelinek.

The World Championship will take place in December 2009. In other exciting news, City Chase Salta will air around the world on National Geographic Adventure Channel in early Autumn 2010. Stay tuned.

    DON’T CRY FOR ME!

Jocelyn Santosa and Carolyn Rafferty are Argentina-bound. We take a look at their preparation.

Jocelyn and Carolyn competed in the 2009 City Chase in Sydney and won, completing the race in 1hr, 54 minutes. From here they went to Auckland to compete against (and beat) the winning Melbourne team to qualify for the 2009 City Chase World Championship.

So how are the Australian representatives preparing for the race of their lives?

Running, weights, speed training, interval training, boxing: anything our personal trainers make us do! Trying to get fitter and leaner.

Kayaking: Going for distance, endurance, and most importantly technique!

Rock climbing: well, just the indoor version.

Sleep deprivation: ok, so not yet, but it is a three-day race. We’ll be doing a bit of exercise when we are exhausted to simulate what the actual event will be like.

Learning Spanish: all we can say now is HOLA! But we hope to have progressed much further by December!

Studying: Argentinian culture and particularly the Salta city/province.

Dance lessons: I think it will take us a while to master the tango.

Having an open mind! We were asked to do all sorts of weird and wacky activities in Sydney and Auckland… expecting the organisers to take it to the next level!

    See you all in Salta!

If you have any tips Jocelyn and Carolyn would love to hear them! Email them at chaseme@citychase.com

    COMPETITION WINNERS

BEN FISHER HAS WON THE DIY CHASEPOINT COMPETITION. AND G.L. FROM McMAHONS POINT GETS A NOKIA N85.

As winner of our DIY Chase Point Competition, Ben Fisher has won free entry into the 2010 Sydney City Chase. The challenge was to submit your own idea for a ChasePoint. So Ben will also have the satisfaction of watching hundreds of other teams struggling to meet his challenge.

What is it? It would be cheating to tell. But suffice to say, it’s worth getting to know your chase partner in preparation for race day.

In other competition news, we can reveal that G.L. from McMahons Point is the new owner of a Nokia N85. To enter, participants had to complete a twenty-minute survey and then tell us in twenty-five words or less why they needed the phone.

If you’re wondering whether she deserved it, take a look at her answer…

“Because I’m the naked girl you posted at the top of your last email from Sydney City Chase - it’s the least you could do!”

We’re only too happy to comply. We’d also like to thank everyone for participating in the survey. Your thoughts and feedback will help ensure that City Chase 2010 is bigger and better than ever before.

    CORPORATE CHASE

The world’s largest urban adventure series is also a great in-house team building exercise.

Every City Chase is designed to showcase the sights of the city, whilst providing new and novel experiences. It’s a formula that has taken the world by storm – and now it can help build team spirit in your organisation.

The race can be adapted to meet your specific corporate requirements including product knowledge or corporate history.

We can accommodate any number of participants from 50. We will work within your budget (prices start from $100 per person)

Each participant will receive their own t-shirt as a memento of your Chase

Those members of your staff who do not want to participate can be involved in running the ChasePoints.

A Corporate Chase is for everyone. The fittest team doesn't necessarily always win. Strategy and luck play a large part in the end result.

IBM were the first company to hold a Corporate Chase in Australia.

The aim was to provide a team-building exercise to physically, mentally and emotionally challenge the group, as part of a two-day long conference. Attendees had travelled from around the Australasian region and many had not previously met before.

    CHASE AROUND THE WORLD

On June 20 2009, eleven hundred Chasers tackled thirty-eight ChasePoints in Toronto.

It was warm (for Canada) and pouring rain, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of our contestants. Apart from the obligatory nudity, worms, snakes and spiders, here are a few of the highlights.

Rickshaw Races: Locating hidden markers whilst you’re pulling a rickshaw – and racing another team – can be just a little confusing.

Bucket Heads: It can be hard enough sprinting around trying to fill buckets of water without spilling too much. It becomes even harder when the bucket’s strapped to your head.

Pole Dancing: We tried it in Sydney. In Toronto, Chasers had to learn a routine and then ‘wow’ the instructors with their new-found skills.

SFX: A bullet wound to the head, anyone? In this challenge, Chasers had to try and recreate movie special effects including black eyes and bullet wounds.
